Visegrad Animation Forum (VAF) 2018

The Visegrad Animation Forum (VAF) is the most important co-production meeting for animation in Central and Eastern Europe, managed by a consortium of partners from five countries: the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary. Since its inception, the project has been supported by Creative Europe MEDIA. The Slovenian Society of Animated Film – DSAF, successfully took over the management of the project from the Czech partner in 2018 after having been involved as a partner since its inception.

The four-day VAF event is held annually in early May as part of the Anifilm International Animation Festival in Třeboň, Czech Republic. The co-production meeting consists of a pitching event where animated projects in development (shorts, TV series and feature projects) are presented to a professional audience and compete for financial prizes and automatic inclusion in the Cartoon programmes.

The New Talents programme promotes and encourages the screening of films by selected young filmmakers, while at the same time promoting, in dialogue with exhibitors, public institutions and producers, studios and other stakeholders in the animation industry, the improvement of the conditions for animation filmmaking in Central and Eastern Europe, with a focus on supporting co-production collaborations in the region and beyond. Since 2018, VAF is also part of the new CEE Animation brand for animation development in Central and Eastern Europe, which is based on the pilot event CEE Animation Workshop (held in December 2017 during the Animateka festival in Ljubljana).
