Empowering the Youth: Strengthening Local News Media Services Through the Youth Community Journalism Initiative project (acronym: YoCoJoin) is a response to the unstable media landscape and the risks brought by the digitization of society in the field of journalism. By training young journalists at the local level, it is aimed at strengthening quality journalism and involving young people right there, in the local environment and in the local media.
It is carried out by a consortium of seven experienced local media organizations from seven different countries with a wide network of journalistic experts. The experience of the project coordinator, the Dutch media Omroep Tilburg, will be adapted into an innovative program for the development of community journalism among young people. At the national level, each of the partners will train more than 30 young people for the journalistic profession. At least 20 non-partner local media organizations will be involved in the project.
Časoris Institute (SI) is a project partner who has a lot of experience working with children. At the same time, it is the publisher of the only Slovenian online newspaper for children, Časoris, and the author and performer of media literacy workshops. As part of the media for children, he also founded the editorship of Časoris young journalists. Časoris will share its expertise by leading workshops for young journalists and reporters in Ljubljana. In addition, it will coordinate the organization of workshops for local media organizations from the EU in Tilburg and Ljubljana.
