Comix Remix

Remix Comix is a two-year project aiming to create a new transnational comics platform for artists, scholars and social activists from four European countries. The Remix Comix team believes that comics can and should contribute to inclusive and diverse European heritages, in all different domains: art, education, cultural institutions, and public life.

The project aims to explore the invisible cultural heritage and present it to the public in the form of comics. How can we visualize different perspectives on shared European heritages? What narratives should be told, and what narratives should be altered? How can comic artists engage in an inclusive dialogue with cultural entrepreneurs, educators and activists? The specificity of the project is to look at the local cultural heritage from the point of view of various socially sensitive and vulnerable groups, whose representatives will be involved in working with artists through workshops and meetings.

The project will result in two interdisciplinary conferences on comics correlation to heritage, contemporary art and social issues, five artist-in-residence programs to create a site-specific work of art in the form of comics in public space in five European cities (Amsterdam, Ljubljana, Novi Sad, Pančevo, and Prague), a project publication and a film.

In 2023, Forum Ljubljana will host four artists from Serbia, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic selected in a public call at a two-week residency, while four artists from Slovenia will take part in residency programs in Novi Sad, Amsterdam, Prague and Pančevo. We will also organize an international conference on the topic Comics and Society to explore the medium and its power in the social context.
