The 22nd and 23rd Kino Otok – Isola Cinema International Film Festival in Years 2026 and 2027

Kino Otok – Isola Cinema, organized since 2004, is a boutique, yet the second largest general international film festival in Slovenia to showcase art cinema. We are committed to broadening our young and adult audiences’ film horizons by presenting exceptional international, especially European authors and films that would otherwise not circulate in our territory. A special focus is put on film education for children and youth, and on training of film emerging and established professionals for success on international film markets.

The main festival event takes place every June in Izola, a bilingual Slovenian-Italian town on the proverbially short Slovenian coast; 2026 will mark its 22st and 2027 its 23nd edition. During the festival, the picturesque Mediterranean town is transformed into a film island, where the lively festival community enjoys indoor and outdoor screenings, talks, meetings, workshops and networking events, followed by the live music under the starry sky at the Lighthouse Park. Additionally, we curate extensive satellite and year-long programs in cities, towns and villages Southwestern Slovenia, in the capital Ljubljana and beyond. These programs bring inspiring on-site and online activities for diverse young and adult audiences, oftentimes in areas with little to none other art cinema initiatives.

Majority of our programs is produced in collaboration with most relevant local, regional, national and international partners. From 2023 onwards, we are coordinating CE MEDIA supported EU Film Festival Network Young4Film, which means several complimentary project activities for our festival, as well as for all five festival network members.

In 2025, on the threshold of festival’s third decade, our core values and principles of non-competitiveness and collaboration were updated with social and environmental responsibility and sustainability – not only in vision but also in action on all levels.
