The Théâtre de Saint-Nazaire is one of the 78 “scènes nationales” (a label awarded by the Ministry of Culture that span the French territory). Its missions are to support creation (5 to 10 projects supported per year), to present a multidisciplinary program (around 100 performances per year), and to carry out an important work to raise awareness of art and culture within its local area. The theatre is at the heart of the city of Saint-Nazaire (70,000 inhabitants and 150,000 for the global area, located in western France, 70 kilometres from Nantes).

The theatre has an 800-seat auditorium and a large rehearsal studio that can accommodate an audience (up to 200 people). It also runs a cinema that is a member of the Europa network. Theatre and cinema activities attract around 90,000 spectators per season. The budget is around 3M€ and it employs 27 persons.
