REALIS – Reading and Listening to Contemporary European Literature

The project involves three partners (Zalozba Goga publishing and Audibook from Slovenia and Residenz Verlag from Austria) and is orientated toward the translation of contemporary European literature from smaller to bigger European languages and toward transforming printed texts into e-book and audiobook form.

We encourage inovative practices on the field of publishing and promoting books as well as focus on the digitalization (not only e-books shall be available, but also an application which shall promote Slovene writers and their work). A large part of the translation activity shall take place within the relations among smaller languages (Slovenian, Lithuanian, Croatian …) and between the Slovenian and German language field, while also including the relations between Slovenian and Swedish. In the light of Slovenia’s presence at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2023 where we shall appear as special guest, the promotion of our literature in Austria and Germany shall be intensified, while we shall also visit many international book fairs to network and circulate European authors and their work.

Our project shall be represented at three international literary festivals which concentrate on the short prose – in Munich (Literaturhaus Munich)and Novo mesto. Parallel to these events which are intended for general public as well as literary experts, we intend to organize various other inovative approaches to book promotion which shall focus also on non-readers (spatial installations in the centre of the city) and on frequenty disregared groups (elderly people, youth, Roma population of Novo mesto). While choosing books, authors and translators, we were above all focused on their quality and on the gender and generation equilibrium as well. Our project is distinguished by several translations of writers who do not write in the language of their origin (Hemon, Čolić and Kermani) and by a substantial emphasis on the promotion of translators and their work.
