ENACT – Easy-to-understand News for Collaborative Transformation

ENACT (Easy-to-understand News for Collaborative Transformation) is a project that aims to promote transformative change in the European Union through the development of easy-to-understand audiovisual news on the web, radio and TV. The project brings together a diverse range of partners from Slovenia (RTV Slovenia), Spain (3CAT, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), Italy (Uniamoci APS), Austria (ORF) and Latvia (Latvijas Radio), including journalists, media professionals, linguists, technology experts and end-users.

The ENACT project focuses first on improving the skills of media professionals by providing tailor-made training and exchange programmes and establishing a cross-border hub to exchange best practices, foster cooperation and strengthen competences in different working environments. Secondly, the ENACT project involves systematically comparing and testing different production methods to identify the most effective strategies for simplifying complex journalistic topics. The third objective is to establish international guidelines for the integration of easy-to-understand language in audiovisual media and to set up an online hub of best practices to ensure high-quality standards in news production. The project also prioritises the inclusion of users’ views, encouraging the participation of different groups and promoting media literacy to bridge social divides. Finally, the project aims to promote and disseminate easily understandable journalism across Europe, using comprehensive promotional strategies, multilingual approaches and rigorous measurement tools, and evaluating outreach efforts to increase inclusion and participation in the media space.

The ENACT project therefore emerges as a comprehensive and innovative initiative to address easily understandable language news in a collaborative and user-centred way that can have a significant impact on the European media landscape.
