“The End of the World in Three Acts” at the Maribor Theatre Festival
Creative Europe project Shadow Pandemic: Hidden Voice created the play that premiered at the Belgrade Drama Theatre in April 2024. Two more premieres will follow, in May in Zagreb and in June in Maribor at the Maribor Theatre Festival.
Project Shadow Pandemic: Hidden Voices addressed the problem of violence against women during the lockdown in the pandemic through a play, a performance The End of the World in Three Acts and through the workshops with young people on the topic of violence that will be process through the theatre.
The End of the World in Three Acts premiered on 6 April at the Belgrade Drama Theatre. The performance will be presented in the regular programme of the Zagreb Youth Theatre from 16 to 19 May. From 4 June to 6 June the show will premiere at Maribor Theatre Festival Borštnikovo srečanje as part of the Accompanying programme.
The End of the World in Three Acts is based on the texts of three contemporary authors – Kristina Kegljen Under the Coat, Katja Gorečan Activists and Tijana Grumić The World Deserves to End – who are characterised by a strong feminist and authorial approach to the issue of violence against women in a time of pandemic. A contemporary dramatic omnibus, where resistance and women’s revenge emerge as key common themes that become the guiding thread of the entire work, and through them the power of women’s experience from the age of the primeval world to the present, from the universal to the narrowly theatrical, is shown, reminding us that with the current values, the end of the world has long since come.
