Story:
The story of “Sema” takes place in 1947 Italy. While the story focuses on Italian colonisation of Ethiopia, it also touches the subject of Italian oppression of Slovenia. In the film, an African girl gets herself hired as a maid by an important Italian family, whose mother is of Slovenian descent. She has been waiting a long time to enter their lives for revenge. Common colonial history and common oppressor connect the territories and co-producing countries together fundamentally and artistically. Sema is a debut film by emerging filmmaker Lorenzo Puntoni, who aims to reveal a page of the untold history: the violence of Italian Colonialism in Africa.
