NTY – Your’re never too young to change the world

“You’re never too young to change the world” is an educational literary translation project involving 3 publishers from Serbia, Slovenia and Italy that focuses on presenting relevant issues of contemporary society to its most sensitive and important groups – tweens and teens.

Books to be published deal with 3 most concerning issues of modern age which seek proper education: environmental issues, gender equality and inclusion. These topics are divided in 2 age groups for middle grade and teenagers; environment and inclusion topics are divided in sub-categories, each tackling separate issue: climate change, animal welfare; mental illness, immigrant/racial inclusion, body shaming, bullying. Project targets Generation Z, often defined as ones who’ll change the world for the better and already known as the Woke generation. But evident rise of mental health issues, xenophobia, bulling and global warming suggests that we still need to educate them on these issues and show them that they are not too young to set an example and start making a difference.

Project includes 14 awarded works of fiction and focuses on literature underrepresented in Serbia (Dutch, Catalan, Danish, etc) and will contribute to circulating works in lesser used language (Serbian) into Italian and Spanish. Books will be published with highest quality of translation and production and disseminated through regular and online bookstores, book fairs and exhibitions across exYU countries where Serbian language can be read and understood, using innovative sale methods, and promoted via 2 main strategies: direct marketing, online and social media to reach primary public (children) and traditional media to reach secondary public: influential adults. We expect the project to be successful in several aspects: education on the social and environmental issues; raising profiles of translators, EU writers and less known cultures; developing new skills and teaching young readers that literature can be both enjoyable and educational.
