Guide for quality assessment of green aspects in projects

A new guide for assessing the green aspects of projects applying for Creative Europe – Culture calls.

As a new feature, evaluators assessing applications to Culture strand calls (including those for 2025) will also assess the extent to which applicants have taken into account green aspects. The guide is also a valuable tool for applicants, as it introduces key concepts, addresses essential questions and offers practical guidance for applicants. PLEASE NOTE: the new guide has already entered into force and will be used for both the Circulation of European literary works call and the European cooperation projects call.

In line with the European Union’s commitment to address climate emergencies through its actions, the Creative Europe programme also addresses the objectives of the European Green Deal. Therefore, projects supported by Creative Europe must also contribute to mainstreaming climate action and to achieving the common goal of 30% of EU budget expenditure being dedicated to climate objectives, while respecting the “do no harm” principle.

This reflects a wider recognition that culture has a fundamental role to play in the green transition, both for its role in raising awareness and for the ways in which cultural content and activities can contribute to shaping values and behaviour. In addition, cultural organisations can adopt and promote greener practices in processes related to the creation, production and distribution of content, the management of buildings and venues, the organisation of events, and the mobility of artists, cultural workers and audiences.
