Women, (be)coming in Maribor
On the International Women’s Day (March 8, 2019) Maribor Art Gallery is opening the first of two consecutive presentations of art works emerged from the Wom@rts Project’s artistic residencies supported by the Creative Europe programme. The artists had responded to Simone de Beauvoir groundbreaking work “The Second Sex” that was published seventy years ago.
The residencies in the fields of printmaking, comics & illustration and lens-based media, respectively, took place in September and October of 2018. Wom@rts is the European platform for equal representation of women in arts and supported by the Creative Europe programme.
The international exhibition of altogether 32 artists from more than 10 different countries includes Slovenian artists Samira Kentrić, Ana Pečar and Mina Fina. It premieres in Maribor and is scheduled to later on roam the project’s partner exhibition grounds in Vilnius (Lithuania), Santiago de Compostela (Spain) Grand Angouleme (France), Rijeka (Croatia) and Limerick (Ireland). The second part of the exhibition opens on 26 April 2019.
