Testing Ground: Reparative Practices for New Cultural Ecosystem

Testing Ground: Reparative Practices for New Cultural Ecosystem (TestG) aims to develop ‘reparative methods’, transdisciplinary modalities of creative explorations of potentials for social repair. Drawing from culture’s creative capacities, reparative methods overcome predetermined and already existing frameworks of reaction while avoiding a regressive return to “normality” and using the opportunity for reinventing a more inclusive and just socio-cultural ecosystem. Objectives are 1) applying inventive research methods for developing crisis response models in culture 2) stimulating experimental cultural and creative practices in response to different areas of contemporary friction and uncertainty (gender inequality, climate crisis and structural obstacles within the cultural field) 3) fostering local and international transdisciplinary collaborative practices, 4) activation of innovative knowledge transfer methodologies. Through Research, Experimental and Rhizomatic strand of activities, the project will directly include cultural and educational experts and practitioners; emerging and freelance artists, researchers and writers; students of arts, humanities, social and scientific fields; members of artistic, academic and cultural communities in the risk of discrimination; creatives with a migrant and refugee background; and members of the scientific community in an environmental context. Outputs include public talks, presentations, lectures and seminars (13), 2 Repair Shacks (creative retreats on Croatian sea coast and Polish wetlands), 2 micro-residencies, numerous artistic (performing, visual and sound arts) outputs, 4 publications, online Compendium of reparative practices and Exposium, a final conference that will include the exhibition of reparative practices. Through the development of reparative methodologies, we expect improved cultural participation of young, emerging and underrepresented creatives, raised awareness of the preservation of urban biodiversity, and new forms of knowledge produced and exchanged.
