Performing gender – dance makes differences

Performing Gender – Dance makes differences is a two-year European Cooperation Project, supported by Creative Europe programme, between Italy, Slovenia, Spain, The Netherlands and United Kingdom. It investigates gender and dance, and provides skills useful to develop new forms of narrative for LGBTIQ identities in Europe.

Mesto_zensk_PerformingGender.pngThe project Performing Gender – Dance makes differences is a unique collaboration between Gender Bender Festival (Bologna, IT) z Centro per la Scena Contemporanea (Bassano del Grappa, IT), Yorkshire Dance (Leeds, UK), City of Women (Ljubljana, SI), Paso a 2 Certamen Coreográfico (Madrid, ES), Theaterfestival Boulevard (‘s-Hertogenbosch, NL).

Five international makers and five dramaturgs will train, research, exchange and create within different local communities, and cultural and social environments. Project partners will be busy asking themselves where does dance as a living art form meet gender as a lived performed expression of one’s self?

It inscribes itself in the 23rd International Festival of Contemporary Arts – City of Women (6–14 October 2017) context and will combine a range of activities, such as practical and theoretical workshops, debates and meetings, encounters with specialists and other artists, as well as intensive dialogue with the local dramaturge.

The first Training Week, hosting the five makers and the local dramaturge is taking place in Ljubljana, from 7th to 13th October 2017. On the last day of the training week (13th October, 6.30pm, at Old Power Station Ljubljana), the international makers will share the process and their first sketches with the audience. Makers: Nataša Živković (SI), Jija Sohn (NL), Roberta Racis (IT), Koldo Arostegui González (ES), Sophie Unwin (GB); dramaturge: Tea Hvala (SI).
The sharing will be followed by a closing ambiental party with music. The event will be held in English. Free entry.
